Blackwater Meadow Marina has a lovely rural feel about it, making it easy to relax and get away from it all. Just a stone’s throw from the center of Ellesmere, you’re within easy walking distance of family-owned restaurants and tea shops serving up fresh, home-cooked meals.
From the marina, take two relaxing days to get to Llangollen. En route you’ll pass over Chirk Aqueduct, the first of two aqueducts built by Thomas Telford. Completed in 1801, it stands 70 feet high, and 30 feet above it is the viaduct built 50 years later. Immediately following, you’ll pass through Chirk Tunnel which is some 1,200 feet in length and is one of two tunnels at Chirk; the other is the shorter Whitehurst Tunnel. If you moor up near Chirk Tunnel you can walk to Chirk Castle, a magnificent, medieval 700-year-old castle now owned by the National Trust.
