Brittany Lincicome to Play in PGA TOUR Event

LPGA professional Brittany Lincicome will make history next month as the fifth female ever to compete in a PGA TOUR event.

Lincicome, a Diamond Celebrity ambassador, accepted a sponsorship exemption to compete in the 2018 Barbasol Championship from July 16-22 at Keene Trace Golf Club outside Lexington, Kentucky. By competing in the event, she will join Babe Zaharias, Annika Sorenstam, Suzy Whaley and Michelle Wie as the only women ever to compete in a PGA TOUR event, according to the TOUR.

But Lincicome is no stranger to teeing up against men.

As an ambassador for Diamond Resorts, Lincicome has played several times in the former Diamond Resorts Invitational™, a PGA TOUR Champions Challenge Season event. In 2018, Lincicome was one of four LPGA professionals to compete in the event alongside a lineup of sports and entertainment celebrities and PGA TOUR Champions players, including Major champions John Daly, Nick Faldo, Jeff Sluman, Mark Calcavecchia and Lee Janzen.

Lincicome held her own during the three-day tournament, which was held in early January at Tranquilo Golf Club at Four Seasons Resort Orlando in Florida. She even credited the Invitational for her 2017 and 2018 back-to-back wins at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic, held just two weeks later.

After this year’s Pure Silk win, Lincicome said it was no coincidence she won two years in a row.

“The Diamond Resorts Invitational competition clearly helps the LPGA players,” she said in a post-victory interview. “It’s amazing with the celebrities. Some of those bigger, more powerful guys hit it farther than we do and that challenges you to hit a better second shot.  And that’s in competition – with scoring, standards and galleries – not a practice round with a PGA TOUR friend. It’s definitely a factor in sharpening my game.”

Diamond Resorts has announced a new tournament for 2019 – the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions, an official LPGA Tour event. Only LPGA winners from the past two seasons will qualify to play January 16-20, 2019 at Tranquilo Golf Club at Four Seasons Resort Orlando for a $1.2 million purse. The tournament will be the LPGA Tour’s new season opener, and include 45 celebrity golfers and 10 amateur players.

With her Pure Silk Bahamas wins, Lincicome is qualified to compete in the inaugural event, along with more than a dozen other LPGA champions, including Annie Park, Ariya Jutanugarn, Minjee Lee, Brooke Henderson, Lydia Ko, Michelle Wie, Lexi Thompson and Pernilla Lindberg.

Lincicome recently told the PGA TOUR she is looking forward to competing at the Barbasol Championship.
