With Colt Ford at the controls, the Diamond Live concerts series flew into the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, Virginia on June 11th, 2018. Ford took the stage inside a hangar lined with vintage aircraft before an enthusiastic audience of Diamond members and guests. “I love meeting you guys and seeing you out on the road,” said the one-time pro golfer who became a hit-maker for other country music artists before launching a solo career that is now six albums deep. The hour-long acoustic set combined new music and past tunes in Ford’s unique fusion of country, blues, and hip-hop.
The Georgia native and his band are in the middle of their Ride the Country Tour, playing 34 shows in 18 states over the next five months. Attendees had the chance to meet Ford and take pictures during a pre-show grip-and-grin and the assembled were fueled for the entertainment ahead by steaming platters of Virginia barbecue with all the trimmings. The atmosphere in the hangar resembled a back-yard gathering, with the added touch of a squadron of World War II-era airplanes lining the stage and seating area. “This place is really cool,” said Ford.
These events are noted for their intimate feel and private nature. Virginia Beach previously welcomed Diamond Celebrity ambassadors Jana Kramer and Sister Hazel, and anticipates the arrival of Lee Ann Womack in July. Other concert series locations include Orlando, Florida, Branson, Missouri, and Las Vegas.
The concerts are a unique opportunity for Diamond Resorts members and, on occasion, concerts are augmented by non-musical Diamond Celebrity ambassadors like St. Louis Cardinals’ pitcher Bud Norris, LPGA star Brittany Lincicome, and baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson.
