#DiamondStories: Discovering Royal Oasis Club at Pueblo Quinta

Did someone say oasis?
After only a few minutes at Royal Oasis Club at Pueblo Quinta, it’s clear that the resort is appropriately named – and why it is so popular with Diamond Resorts members.
From the outside, it appears to be an urban resort, located in the heart of Benalmádena. It’s just a short walk from numerous shopping and dining options, and is across the street from Parque de la Paloma, a spacious city park featuring wildlife, walking paths, playgrounds and dining options.
But you wouldn’t know it once you’re inside.
This year, the Diamond Resorts media team is exploring several of Diamond’s most desirable destinations, giving you an inside look at the best experiences in each location so you can begin planning your next Diamond getaway today. You can follow our adventures live @DiamondResorts on Twitter and Instagram, and join the fun by sharing your own vacation experiences with #DiamondStories.
We spent just over a week in Costa del Sol in Spain, exploring all three of Diamond’s properties: Los Amigos Beach Club, Sahara Sunset and Royal Oasis Club at Pueblo Quinta.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have an opportunity to stay the night at Royal Oasis Club. As Diamond’s smallest property in Costa del Sol, it can be tough to book on short notice. (If you’re looking to experience the resort, we seriously recommend booking early.) However, we did get to check out the apartments, which are well-appointed with all the amenities of home and have been newly renovated.
We also had the opportunity to spend some time with a few members, owners, guests and team members at a summer party in the resort’s newly-renovated restaurant, and on several excursions.
One of our favorite days in Spain (and I say “one of” because really, every day was amazing) was the day we explored Benalmádena and Mijas Pueblo with Joan, the Activities Manager, and Rocio, the Resort Manager from Royal Oasis Club at Pueblo Quinta.
Joan had our entire day planned to match the Diamond Experiences Plus excursions that he takes Diamond members on when they’re interested in exploring both cities.
We started with a visit to Mariposario de Benalmádena, a butterfly park that is filled with more than 1,500 butterflies, a koi pond, free-flying birds and even a small wallaby that the park rescued. Despite the heat and humidity inside the tropical environment, I could have spent at least half a day inside admiring the butterflies. But of course, I wore a sweater and long pants, and was dripping sweat after only an hour.
We then walked across the street to the Buddhist Stupa, the largest temple in the Western world, and took in unrivaled views of the coastal city and Mediterranean Sea. After, we drove to the iconic white-washed city of Mijas Pueblo and at my not-so-subtle urging, quickly found a little restaurant patio for lunch.
If you have been following our #DiamondStories series, you may have realized that Christopher, our Social Media Manager, and I really love food. And the food in Costa del Sol is incomparable. I feel comfortable guessing that I ate about five loaves of bread with olive oil by myself that week. Seriously, everything is so good and fresh.
We stuffed our faces with gazpacho, pizza and flan before wandering around the picturesque city streets. Joan showed us all the best viewpoints and provided some basic history on many of the historic buildings, including a chapel that dates back to before the 17th century.
Exhausted, we drove back to the resort to rest and change for an exciting evening flamenco performance at Pepe López in Torremolinos. The show began late by our standards – it didn’t finish until midnight – but was breathtaking. The guitarist, singer and dancers displayed a deep knowledge and passion for the traditional art.
We got lucky and Rocio enjoyed our company enough to spend another full day with us, along with Jose, a front desk team member from Royal Oasis Club at Pueblo Quinta. On our last full day in Costa del Sol, Rocio and Jose drove us about an hour to the mountaintop city of Ronda. Known for its spectacular views, the city is set dramatically above a deep gorge that separates the city’s 15th century new town from its old town, which dates back to Moorish rule. Spanning the gorge is one of Ronda’s most recognizable landmarks: an impressive stone bridge that dates back to the 1700s.
One of the most prominent features of Ronda is the El Tajo - an 120m chasm that divides the city in two. Spanning the gorge is the Puente Nuevo bridge, which connects the “new town” from the “old town.” #DiamondStoriespic.twitter.com/EoOG5sVIaE
Rocio and Jose showed us the best viewpoints for taking photos of the bridge, and I’m not afraid to admit I took a selfie or two. We then walked around the outside of one of the oldest bullfighting rings in Spain, Ronda’s Plaza de Toros, which is now open to the public as a museum.
Getting to Ronda was a bit of trek, so unless you’re comfortable driving on Spain’s mountain roads, we recommend visiting the city on a pre-arranged tour. You can book a Ronda excursion, among other tours, easily through the Diamond Resorts App or at the front desk at any of Diamond’s properties.
We can’t thank the team from Royal Oasis Club at Pueblo Quinta enough for their generous hospitality and wished we could’ve spent more time at the resort. We just had too much to explore! Stay tuned for more on our Costa del Sol adventure.
